AN IRONIC POEM

Somewhere in the
Background
a fridge is singing,
unable to move
it marks time
with a steady
wa wa pulse
and so justifies
in sound
a cold and static
existence.

Somewhere in
another background
a man is scribbling,
unable to move
he marks time
with a blue biro
and so justifies
in words
an existence spent
listening to
household appliances.
